Duchess of Cambridge attends Wimbledon opening day

The Duchess of Cambridge wowed the crowds at Wimbledon today when she arrived to meet staff and watch the opening matches.

Kate, wearing a stunning Dolce and Gabbana polka-dot dress, looked happy and relaxed as she enjoyed the tennis from the Royal Box, including Andy Murray’s first-round match.

Earlier the duchess met the ball boys and ball girls in this, her first visit as patron of the All England Club.

She told two girls and a boy that their work “makes the game happen”. She added: “It makes such a difference to the players, your professionalism.

“You look so smart.”

Royal observers noted Kate was sporting a new hair style – a tousled long bob.

Her black polka-dot silk dress is still available to buy on MatchesFashion.com, reduced from £1,550 to £930 in the retailer’s summer sale. In something of a new take on the classic concept of ‘Wimbledon whites’, Kate teamed it with a structured white bag by Victoria Beckham, which she also wore to the event last year.

A few days ago, Kate revealed she was banned from attending Wimbledon while she was pregnant with Prince George in 2013 as her doctor deemed it too much of an unnecessary risk.

“I was very heavily pregnant. I wrote to him [Andy Murray] afterwards saying sorry for not being there,” she said in a BBC documentary about Wimbledon.
